Entering Data

Data can be entered into the active cell simply by typing in it.  After the data has been entered, you must accept the entry by pressing Enter, Tab, an arrow key, or clicking the green check in the formula bar.  To cancel an entry, press Esc or click the red X in the formula bar.  The red X and green check are only active in the formula bar while you are editing a cell.

For more complex entries, select the active cell by clicking on it and then type the data in the formula bar.  Data entered in the formula bar will be stored in the active cell.

Formula Bar

The formula bar displays the data stored in the active cell.  If a formula is stored in the active cell, the formula bar will display the formula.  The value calculated by the formula will appear in the active cell.
